Alright. The comic lives. Six new pages for Ice, containing probably one of the most written and re-written scenes I've ever done. Usually I don't even write my dialog down, let alone RE-write it, so you know this was a scene that was really tough for me. It was really intimidating to approach a subject as, well, horrifying as this one, and finally I decided to just bloody do it, and accept that nothing is perfect, it might come off wrongly to some people, but this is the way I've written it. I'll withhold further comments until I've completed the entire scene.
I'd type "enjoy," but really, these are not very enjoyable pages ... I shall chalk it all up to being able to grow as a storyteller. If there was no D101, there would have been no Ice, and if there was no Ice, there would have been no Zombies Calling, and if there'd been ... well, I can't go beyond that. Yet. :P

Hunter's second speech balloon on page 163 seemed a bit awkward to me the first time I read it, but going back over it, I can't see why I thought that. I think I was just reading too fast.

you've gotten really good. the art sets the mood and the words back it up. can't ask for anything more than that.

and "since when do other countries care what another is doing ?" They only care when they think they have something to earn in the situation... The horrors in Darfur have been going on for years before any country began to take interest.

The dialog made me wonder where this conversation was going, which (I think) is probably what the characters were wondering to. I've always admired people who could do that and make a person completely immersed in the reading. =) Thanks for writing!

the greys
Hi Faith, I'm a mostly lurking fan of your work and slow cartoonist. Could you say what you're using for the grays in these new panels? It looks like a marker, so I was wondering if it is, and also if it's 2 different smarkers...anything else you can share about your technique with the greys in these pages would be much appreciated! Enjoyed these pages quite a lot. Thanks!October 28 2007, 19:25:50 UTC 4 years ago
Re: the greys
er, i meant "markers", not "smarkers". :)October 29 2007, 19:34:06 UTC 4 years ago
Re: the greys
Yes, it is markers, usually a couple of cheap promarkers or whatever Loomis has that's on sale. I then use Photoshop to blend them, giving it that filmy quality. Photoshop is your friend, really. But it's very simple.October 29 2007, 20:30:02 UTC 4 years ago

Thanks! Do you use the Smudge tool? Thanks again! :)October 29 2007, 00:45:18 UTC 4 years ago

If I weren't so terrified of Zombies*, I'd dress up as one for the $5 half-price for the half-dead thing they've got going on. But I really don't mind paying full price for a book of AWESOME.
* Seriously. Zombie movies like Dawn of the Dead leave me no choice but to sleep with the lights on for a whole month with a bat by my bedside.
